"Leaders who can stay optimistic and upbeat, even under intense pressure, radiate the positive feelings that create resonance. By staying in control of their feelings and impulses, they craft an environment of trust, comforts and fairness. And that self-management has a trickle down effect from the leader." Daniel Goleman, Primal LeadershipI've been under significant amounts of pressure to succeed at work and in my marriage this year. I nearly lost both at the turn of the year. I find I have so much to prove after not proving much the last few years personally and professionally. My peers doubt my resolution and I'm struggling to stay afloat with how fast technology is changing, but the one thing I'm striving amidst all this change is to keep a cool mind and not crack under pressure or relapse to laziness.
I'm working on garnering a confident and focused mind that is set on my future. I may not know where the path will take me or what waves I'll have to face along the way, but I'm learning not to abandon adversity when I first face it. To take the challenge, accept it, and think of creative ways to solve problems.
United Flight 487
My wife was telling me an interesting story last night about a pilot a week ago from United Flight 487 who took off at 7:07am and a few minutes later in the air had smoke in the cabin and as a result his guiding instruments turned off. He contacted the tower and was able to land safely fourteen minutes later. The most remarkable thing about it all was the composure that the pilot and tower assistant had communicating amidst a crisis. At one point the tower asked how many souls were on board and how many gallons of fuel did the plane have left in the tank. The pilot and the tower assistant didn't panic and were able to save the lives of everyone on board with guiding systems off and a tire blowout. Here's a graphic below of from flightaware.com detailing the plane's brief flight.
I think to handle challenges in the future, I'll have to build up that pressure tolerance to forge ahead in equanimity.

1 observations:
Good to read that you are progressing so much in life. The career path is hard, if you are an ambitious person and want to rise to the top. It is a marathon, and not a sprint - so maintaining your balance over the long run is important. We are facing a lot of the same issues these days, I know you will do it!
